i have seen the item in a local store; however, i can save over $500 buying online. i can buy online from either broadway photo (bwarphoto.com) or camera addict (cameraaddict.com). they both get excellent reviews from shopcart.com I could buy last years samsung 50″ plasma locally for about the same and take home myself sameday. last years rated at 60,000 hrs life vs this years rated at 100,000 hrs life. is it worth buying online and what are my concerns????

We are refinishing our basement and are planning to put a tv down there. There is only one window in the basement and no direct light will be on the TV. What kind of TV should we get and what is the best on the market for the price range I am in? I have seen good reviews on a LG 50″ Plasma 720 (is there that big a difference on a 720 over a 1080) and a Panasonic Plasma 720 as well. Any help is appreciated. Also, a clue on what else I need besides a home entertainment center. I assume the cables, wall mount, but don’t know how much that extra stuff costs.

I am looking at buying a 42inch tv. But which, plasma or lcd? I personally will be using the tv for things such as xbox 360 and I also watch plenty of football on the weekends. But no review I read can give a straight answer and to make matters worse I keep reading that lcd manufactures specs, mainly response time cannot be completely trusted plus they don’t always state if response time is white - black - white or gray to gray.
I just want a tv that has a good picture that has no lag for fast moving pictures and also works well with gaming.
Any thoughts are appreciated, I really can’t understand this tv crap because i can’t help but think if my old crt works fine for sports and games than lcd and plasma could not be worse and i’m worrying over nothing

So…im in the market for a blu-ray player…probably a PS3 after the reviews i’ve read on it…and its versatility as an all in one unit. What can i expect resolution wise on my 720p Panasonic Viera Plasma when vierwing blu-ray? They are always demo-ing blu-ray on 1080p in the stores…so i cannot get a grasp on what i’m going to see on 720p. Am i looking at a big jump up from DVD? I know the frame rates are higher on Blu-ray…but i know true dvd is in 720p. I have my current setup broadcasting 720p over HDMI on a Harman Kardon DVD player and it looks pretty sharp. My TV’s model number is TH-42PX80U. Thanks!

I’m looking for an hdtv. These are my requirements:
-Is 1080p
-Is from a good manufacturer (i.e. no Westinghouse, Olevia or Wal-Mart brand)
-Is 50 inches or larger (to maximize the 1080p)
-Has great reviews
-Would look great on a ps3 with blu-ray
-Is LCD (or is a plasma that does not have the burn-in problem)
-is not used
-costs less than $1700
THANKS!!!!

Currently purchased a Hitachi - Ultravision 50″ 1080i Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV. I have a Phillips DVD HDMI converter dvd recorder and I was wondering how I can tell if the tv supports the progressive scan mode of my dvd player? Also I was wondering if this TV is really 1080i because I have read some reviews and some people noted that it was a misprint and that it really is 1080p. How can I tell? I looked in the manual and didn’t see anything regarding that. Finally, what is the best HDMI setting to put my dvd player on to correlate with the tv. Thanks-Theater Rookie!
HDMI setting meaning 420p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. You can cycle through these diffrent settings on the dvd player menu.
So what do I put my tv in 1080i or 720p when I watch HD? Is that possible?

I am thinking of buying the “Samsung 42″ Widescreen Plasma HDTV (HPT4264)” for $1299 and watching Blu-Ray movies and playing PS3 (the PS3 displays at 1080p).
These are my questions:
1) Is there any difference between 1080p and 720p on a 42″ Plasma (CNET.com says that “The benefits of 1080p are not obvious at screen sizes less than 50 inches to the majority of viewers.”)?
2) Will there be 1080p stuff in the future that will be noticeable compared to 720p on 42 inch plasma?
3) A rule of thumb is that even though there is no visual difference between 1080p and 720p, a 1080p TV usually has other higher end specs so its good to get 1080p. For the “Samsung 42″ Widescreen Plasma HDTV (HPT4264)” am I ok going with this 720p TV because the reviews (e.g. CNET’s review) and specs are really good anyway?
4) Should I spend $300 more for this similar TV that is 1080p: “Panasonic 42″ 1080p Flat Panel Plasma HDTV** (TH42PZ77)” even though I like Samsung more and they look the same side by side?

Hi, this question has been answered and reviewed several times but here’s my take from learning them and trying to apply on my walls.
1. For bedrooms … the rule of thumb so far is to paint an accent wall that you see right ahead entering the door. Which is normally, where you put your bed headrest anyway and to this I understand. How about the adjacent wall to it? The one that you probably put your dresser or media table for place your TV? Should we paint the TV wall, or the headrest one (note: the wall we see right after entering the room is the headrest area)?
2. For living room … often we are suggested to pick the one we use to lay ‘big’ furnitures which often be the wall we put our sofa. How about the adjacent wall that we might have huge media rack and plasma etc? Which one would you pick if you are in my shoe?
thanks guys

It’s 2nd tier, so it’s not Sony or Panasonic, but it’s also not 3rd tier, like Viewamatic or Konichiwatch. 7000:1 contrast ratio, good reviews by c-net and others, and no issues watsoever with the clarity of it’s display , so… what I guess I’m asking is; Should I pay *more* money for a *smaller* tv thats capable of 1080p? (I’m also not so concerned about the lifespan of the tv in yrs since some better technology will probably come out by the time I’m done with my question. I am mostly concerned about a breathtaking home theater experience.) Thanks ahead for you thoughts.
Well it’s a Vizio VM60p, with a 1,366 X 768 native resolution and yes it does accept 1080p inputs. The review I spoke of was from the cnet editors and they gave it a 6.6… like I said, good, but not excellent. Here are 2 reviews: http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/vizio-vm60phdtv/4505-6482_7-32306254.html?tag=lst http://products.howstuffworks.com/vizio-vm60-review.htm
One last note: The size is *addictive* so if I were to decide on a different set it couldn’t be excessively smaller, nor the price much higher. I just wish I had a 1080p native panel but is it worth it to pay more for a smaller tv?
