Open Question: 32" hdtv… plasma or lcd?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I want to get an HDTV. I want a 32″. i’m going to buy either a vizio LCD or vizio plasma 32″ as they are in my price range, and the reviews for both tvs are good. I don’t know which i should get though? I don’t really play a lot of video games, although maybe i will now, but i don’t play often anyway. I actually like the looks of the plasma better, (the TV itself..) but my uncle said to get an LCD. HE said that plasma has ”ghosting effect” and burn in. I’ve read that burn in is not very common anymore, and i read that the ghosting effect, (or blurriness with motion) is actually more common on LCD. I will be using this TV in my bedroom for now, and i do tend to watch quite a bit of TV at night. Everywhere i’ve read says if you are buying a smaller tv to go with LCD, but i thought that was just because smaller plasma tvs are not as commonly made? The LCD tv is $527 and the plasma is $512, so price is not really an issue here. (and it kind of surprised me as i thought that plasmas were always more expensive?) HELP!!
… why LCD is recommended if you are buying a ‘’smaller” tv?

Resolved Question: What are your thoughts on Vizio TV’s??

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I am considering spending a considerable amount of money on either a panasonic, magnavox or maybe a vizio (and save money) I am wondering if there are any horror stories I should hear about these TVs. I have looked for reviews on the model numbers and I cannot find a place to let me compare them side by side. I guess it would help if 1 store carried all three bit unfortunately they don’t.

the panasonic is the 42 “Viera”
the Vizio is the 42 (VP 423)
and the Magnovox is the 42MF437B_37

Also I am wondering about plasma or LCD.
I also found this deal..

850. for a LCD

Resolved Question: Best HDTV’s vs Sharp Aquos(Please need help)?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

According to CNET these are the top 5 HDTV’s
http://reviews.cnet.com/best-hdtvs/

See here’s my problem I don’t want a plasma even though technically speaking it’s a better fit for me(I’m a movie buff). I prefer an LCD, unfortunately for me CNET’s review only includes 1 LCD in the top 5. From what I’ve been reading online Samsung seem to be the best LCD HDTV’s out there. http://www.consumersearch.com/www/electronics/lcd-tv/review.html

But my original choice was Sharp Aquos(the 1080p or 1080i models).
simply because it seemed like the perfect HDTV overall, it also included this QAM tuner which had me sold instantly.

But then there was the Samsung LN52A650 that CNET recommended, and I thought what if I make the wrong decision.

When it comes down to it there is really one thing that is most important to me than price, image quality, even performance. That is can I use either of the two TV’s I mentioned as a computer monitor?. And would I any kind of upgrades or special cables. Or could I just use the monitor cable that originally comes with the computer?.

I am in debate… You see I saw this TV that is not a brand name that is 1080i resoution in a good price, but I was reading the reviews and someone said that they exchanged it for a Samsung, but it was 720 resoultion. So they are the same price and size. So what do you say I should buy….. thank you

Resolved Question: Looking to buy a new tv in the next couple months?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I’m looking to buy my first HDTV in the next couple of months (how exciting!), but I’m pretty clueless about tvs. I’ve heard that LCD’s are better than Plasma’s in the long run, so I’m thinking of going with something like a 50/52″ LCD. Could someone recommend some models and maybe point me to some reviews. Looking for the best value of quality and durability…my brother in law just bought a new Sony Bravia and is pretty sweet…any advise would be appreciated.

Resolved Question: What is currently the best LCD or Plasma TV on the market that is under $1500?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I am looking to buy a new Plasma or LCD TV for my apartment, however in looking at reviews everyone gives almost all LCD TVs 4-5 stars, which is not really that accurate as they cannot all be 4-5 stars. I am looking for a TV between 40″-50″.

The one I am beginning to consider is this one 42″ Philips LCD 1080p HDTV w/ 120Hz Natural Motion 42PFL7403D/27 . I found it for $1300 at sam’s club. Any thoughts?

Resolved Question: looking at buying samsung 50" plasma tv online from retailer brand new. I am afraid should I be?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

i have seen the item in a local store; however, i can save over $500 buying online. i can buy online from either broadway photo (bwarphoto.com) or camera addict (cameraaddict.com). they both get excellent reviews from shopcart.com I could buy last years samsung 50″ plasma locally for about the same and take home myself sameday. last years rated at 60,000 hrs life vs this years rated at 100,000 hrs life. is it worth buying online and what are my concerns????

Resolved Question: What is the best plasma for watching sports in the $1700 price range?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

We are looking for a new TV and have determined to probably buy a plasma. Basically we will be watching action movies and sports on the TV. Are there going to be problems with blurring and the image going crazy on these tvs? We are looking at the Samsung FPT-5084 which was reviewed well on Cnet.com and some versions of Panasonic Viera 42″-50″. I periodically have heard reviews saying it was hard watching sports on these type of tvs. Thanks for the help. Also, how do these pictures do with standard cable signals? Are they just blurry or are these tvs only good with high def channels and programs.
