Resolved Question: Do all LCD/Plasma t.v.’s display a poor quality picture for standard definition programs?

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

I just purchased a beautiful 46″ Sony Bravia LCD TV (KDL46W3000) and have it hooked up (via HDMI) to our HD-DVR from Cogeco.
While the channels brodcast in HD (1080p) look good, although still not as good as I expected (the in-store display was fantastic)…the standard definition channels (480i) look crappy! Pixelated, cloudy, etc.
As this is my first LCD, I’m wondering if this is normal?
I’d hate to have to return the t.v. if I’m just going to experience the same thing with any other LCD.

Resolved Question: Where can I go to compare TV’s?

Resolved Question: Which HDTV is the best?

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

I want to get a 32″ 720p HDTV. What is better plasma or LCD? I don’t know what brand to get or which t.v. is the best. I DON’T WANT TO SPEND A LOT OF MONEY. I’m probably going to use it for my PS3 but I can’t afford a 1080p right now.
Here are a few suggestions. Which one is best out of the three?
Samsung 32″ LCD HDTV (LN-T3242H)

Samsung 32″ LCD HDTV (LN-T3253H)

LG 32″ LCD HDTV (32LC7D)
I will be playing my PS3 on it(I can’t afford a 1080p) so base it on that also. If you know any affordable 1080p’s let me know.

Resolved Question: Contrast ratio? LCD VS PLASMA? 720p VS 1080p?

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

I’m looking to buy an HDTV this christmas for my room. I’m thinking 42 inches. The problem I’m having is the whole 720p VS 1080 p and LCD VS plasma debate.

I know for 2500 bucks you can get a really good 1080p TV with a high constrast ratio. But I would really prefer not to spend more than 1300 or so…because it’s just a TV for my bedroom. (15 by 15 feet…it’s not really a bright room)

I’ve been looking at a Samsung 720p plasma HDTV with a 10:000:1 contrast ratio. Its about 1400 dollars.

There are also 1080p LCD TVs for the same price, but the contrast ratio is very low in comparison. (1300:1)

So what does this all mean? What factors are most important? Which TV is the best? a 720p plasma with a high contrast ratio or a 1080p LCD with a lower contrast ratio?

Voting Question: which technology is the best for TV, ie, Plasma vs LCD to buy.?

Voting Question: Plasma vs. LCD?

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

I am going to buy my husband a TV for Christmas. It needs to be 42″ to fit the space we have. I am torn between a Panasonic 42″ Plasma, or a Visio 42″ LCD. Both are the exact same cost. Does anyone have any good input to either TVs? We have an old 1990’s very small TV - so anything will be an upgrade!

There will be no games played on it, only TV and movies. The room it will be in has one sliding glass window/door (which has blinds to shut out the light when needed).
Thanks! :)

Resolved Question: Once again, Sayno vs Insignia advice.?

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

This week, I purchased a Sanyo 42″ LCD HDTV with Digital Tuner (DP42647) from Wallyworld for $948. It is a 720p, 1500:1 contrast ratio, and 500 cd/m2 brightness. I realize it is nowhere near the top of the line, but it will do for now.

While in Bestbuy today, I see a brand of TV called Insignia. They had 2 sets I am interested in, almost to the point of returning mine. They are both 42″: (1) Insignia® - 42″ 720p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV Model: NS-PDP42. I realize this is a plasma tv as opposed to my lcd. It is a 720p, 15000:1 contrast ratio, & a brightnes of 1,500:1 cd/m2. Price………$809!

The other set is Insignia® - 42″ 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
Model: NS-LCD42HD. It is a 1080p, 1200:1 contrast ratio, and a brightness of 500cd/m2. Price……………..$998.

My questions?

1. Is Insignia a piece of sh*t?
2. What is more important, high # of verticle scanning lines, or hight contrast ratio? What is a good mean btwn the 2?
3. Given the 3 choices listed, what would you

Resolved Question: 1080 vs 720 HDTV?

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Visually is there a big difference between 720 and 1080 on HD TVs? I know they are different, but can the untrained eye actually see it?

My Father has a 42″ 1080 LCD and I have a 50″ 720 Plasma and I can’t see a difference between the 2.
